about the company

KCBC is one of Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet companies. Founded in 2016 by Kimberly D. Landle, the company is currently entering its 8th season. KCBC was founded on the idea of challenging the boundaries of classical ballet. The company and the choreographers try pushing the dancers’ bodies to explore movement that extends past the classical format while continuously exploring and challenging the body to venture in new directions. Klassic Contemporary Ballet Company is committed to creating work that not only engages the body, but truly tries to connect both the dancer and the audience through all emotional, mental, and physical states. Allowing our dancers to tap into their most genuine emotions and making each piece unique to them, all while studying and trying to understand current and past events. Under the direction of Landle the company is creating art that is athletic, dynamic, and emotionally charged all while staying true to the fluidity, grace, and vigorous use of technique in classical ballet.

KCBC|a

We introduced a new program as we entered our 4th season as a company. Our apprentice program, KCBC|a. An Apprentice dancer’s duty is to learn. I relate the meaning of the word ‘apprentice’ to the Spanish translation of ‘learning’, which is ‘aprender’. What matters the most at this young and fresh age is the experience, so it’s just like an internship. We believe that it is crucial for the company to constantly be growing, evolving, and offering new opportunities. With so much interest in Klassic Contemporary Ballet Company but from an age group and experience level of collegiate dancers, we believe that this opportunity will not only allow you to experience company work at a young age but it will also help you grow as an artist and mature while learning in a company environment.

KCBCII

KCBCII is a pre-professional second company that was built to encourage the serious dancer to dip their foot into the professional dance world; both in training and performance. KCBCII Summer intensive is a 9 week program, 3 levels all with the ability to perform in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival along side the professional company. During the 9 week program the students are immersed in a vigors training schedule for 2 day a week, 4 hours a day. Various guest artists are brought in for classes of ALL genres to push the dancers in all directions with their technique. The second day of training the students learn a new piece of choreography that is usually 15-30 minutes in length every summer.

In 2018 KCBCII became a year-long opportunity where students could sign on and be part of KCBC’s various performances throughout each season. The students learn how to create their resume, a bio, a dance reel, how to market themselves in the correct way, have a yearly photoshoot with new headshots and action shots with Brandon Wyche of Müvment Photography and so much more. KCBCII is a one of kind experience and the difference in the dancers that are a part of this second company are clear.
